Definition
AIDS deaths are defined as the estimated number of adults and children who died due to AIDS given per 100,000 population. AIDS, the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, is caused by Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), a virus that weakens the immune system and destroys the body's ability to fight off infection and disease, which can ultimately lead to death.
